REFLEX OF PLUMBOB, April 2022
Solo Exhibition of Yasemin Kalaycı
Curator: Melis Bektaş
A Reflex for Life in the Face of Today's Livability and Future Possibilities
Yasemin Kalaycı's "Plumbob Reflex" exhibition, curated by Melis Bektaş, will be opened at NOKS Art Space as part of "Senkron Simultaneous Video Exhibitions" on April 15 - 30, 2022!
15th April- 30th April 2022
In this series of multi-channel video installations produced based on the concept of the self, we see the body in a virtual world, adopting the space it is in as an ordinary space and fulfilling its routine needs regardless of where it is. The body starts to do the daily chores starting in the morning and continues the life cycle in the rational world within the digital environment. The character, who is trying to experience repetitions that are not surprising even in an alternative world, has redefined its own truth and adapted itself to this new reality.
Where creating and maintaining reflexes is a condition necessary for the continuation of life, the Plumbob Reflex develops as it is connected with affective science, mood, and movement. This reflex is not a diagnosis nor a system. The Plumbob Reflex, which stresses the blurry line between the new and the old, creates a reflex of life in the face of nostalgia, the livability of today and the possibilities of the future, all at the same time. With a different representation of movement and mood in each video, you can follow the series of reflections that will be familiar to everyone, through our methods of finding and maintaining our normal state even in extraordinary situations

RUPTURE!
Group Exhibition of Ayça Telgeren, Çağrı Saray, Özlem Şimşek and Volkan Kızıltunç

Indie Photography Group Gallery had opened the exhibition “Reflex” in their space in Tel Aviv in 2019 organised by NOKS art Space, Istanbul. The exhibition had been consisting of photography and video works of 7 visual artists from Turkey. In consequence of their collaboration project between INDIE and NOKS, Indie is now participating to ONE Akaretler: The Independent Artists Open Space Exhibitions with the exhibition “Terrarium” with 13 photographers and video artists from Israel.
Indie Photography Group Gallery, Tel Aviv
Indie Photography Group Gallery (a registered Non-Profit Organization) was founded in 2010 by a group of visual artists to provide an artistic platform for young and established contemporary artists in the medium of Photography and Video Art. Indie aims to promote and broaden the discourse on Photography in Israel, without any dependency on financial and commercial issues that could affect the process of the artwork. Indie photography group gallery has 12 members that operates the gallery in south Tel-aviv. In 2019 the gallery established an award given once every two years to an artist working in the medium of photography.
Terrarium
Terrarium is a sealable glass container containing soil and plants, it produces a closed ecosystem that does not require human treatment or intervention. The terrarium regulates nature, embraces it in a closed capsule that is opened only for maintenance purposes. It is nourished by artificial light, and stands isolated on a shelf, far from nature. The photographs and videos in the exhibition show an attempt to produce processes of order, regimentation and meaning within nature. Humans try to decode nature, control their environment and subordinate it to their will, and nature in turn can revolt and react. The works, like the terrarium, do not allow direct contact and leave sculpted pieces that operate as a closed system for the observing person.

BEING THERE, December 2021
Solo Exhibition of Simon Wachsmuth
Being There – Presence and Reverberation
NOKS Art Space is proud to present conceptual artist Simon Wachsmuth, with his exhibition “Being There – Presence and Reverberation.”
22.12.2021 - 16.01.2022
„Every space and place sounds and resounds, every living body and being vibrates, and every kind of material, object and surface has acoustic properties“. *
The exhibition Being There presents the sounds from 4 different film works by Simon Wachsmuth. The films were shot in four countries, in Iran, Turkey, South Korea and India, between 2007 and 2016. Being There is a dematerialised exhibition as the existing visual component of the films is being withheld from the audience. By presenting only the soundtrack of image based works, the exhibition seeks to give the audience the opportunity to sense places and spaces by hearing.
Being There invites the audience to speculate on the general properties of something which is partly missing. Following the echo of the images the audience is invited to reflect upon the situational and relational aspects of sound and listening. To complete the thematic focus of the exhibition, another sound work will be shown that addresses the potential of the imagination in the process of creating and viewing images.

MAHALLA FESTIVAL NOKS ART SPACE PALIMSEST VIDEO ART SELECTION, September 2022
Elçin Acun, Mert Çağıl Türkay, Sami Baruh, Yasemin Kalaycı, Volkan Kızıltunç
Parallel to the 17th Istanbul Art Biennial, we are pleased to invite you to the upcoming Mahalla Festival taking place under the title Palimpsest in the former Greek Primary School in Kurtuluş, Istanbul
The title, Palimpsest, originally denotes a piece of writing material on which the original writing has been erased to make room for later writing. However, traces of the overwritten texts remain.
This paleographic phenomenon will inspire the artists of the Mahalla Festival 2022. They will be concerned with the use of resources in a comprehensive way: in terms of ecological, economic, political, social and communal memory culture.
The festival kicks-off at the former Kurtuluş Greek Elementary School with lively interactive activities. The exhibition in the historic building in Kurtuluş accompanies a series of events. The focus of the activities is the cooperation of the artists and their communication and togetherness with the residents of the quarter.
